Bettie Page - Not Your Typical Pin-up Girl

She was discovered on a beach by a policeman who moonlighted as a photographer. He took pictures of her to help her build her modeling portfolio and introduced her to many of the influential pin-up photographers of the day. Bettie’s amazing good looks naturally gained a lot of attention from photographers. However, she really stood out from the rest of the
pin-up models of the day for several reasons, first that her hair was jet black in an era where most pin-ups were platinum blonde like
Marilyn Monroe or Jayne Mansfield. She wore her hair in very short bangs at the urging of a photographer, because of her extremely high forehead and she had an incredible figure, in a time where implants and liposuction were pretty much unheard of.
But it was not just her looks that made Bettie Page the cult icon she has become. It was the subject matter of her photographs that garnered her the most attention and controversy. In terms of choice of material, she was truly ahead of her time. After doing some swimsuit pin-up modeling typical for the day, Bettie became involved with a pin-up card dealer named Irving Claw. Part of the contract was that she do some bondage photography. This liaison led to one of the most controversial times in Betty’s life.

Farrah Fawcett - The Lost Angel

Two and half years have passed by since both Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson died. Yet it seems like Farrah Fawcett was completely forgotten by the media. I was in the middle of writing an article when I got the news. Farrah Fawcett, my favorite of Charlie’s Angels was dead. Most of us grew up watching Charlie’s Angels. I remember I would be outside playing ‘cops & robbers’ with other kids. I really hated that the girls always got to be the angels. Boys either played Bosley, Charley or the robbers. Yet the angels always won at the end. Within minutes the news was all over the web.
Farrah Fawcett, the poster pin-up girl of the 70′ and 80’s, was taken from us for ever. Farrah, was one of the most beautiful and sexiest women ever. No one could ever forget the beautiful smile she displayed in her world famous poster. But before anyone had a chance to reflect on losing her, we were hit with another piece of shocking news; Michael Jackson, the King of pop, dead as well. I thought this had to be a mistake. We just lost Farrah Fawcett. I had yet to let that sink in completely when now I heard Michael Jackson was dead too.
From the sky fell a Star… Then went back up to Heaven!
Since my mother had died from cancer a few months earlier, I could not help but feel for Farrah as she was battling cancer as well. Nevertheless, over the course of the next two weeks, the death of Michael Jackson completely overshadowed any and all news about Farrrah Fawcett’s death. Thus I now realize most of us never got a chance to mourn Farrah and reflect on her passing away. The truth is the Michael Jackson funeral drew more hits on Yahoo than any other event in the history of the search engine giant. We all watched it. Many of us cried when Paris Jackson broke down. However as I sit here thinking; I never got to really grieve for my favorite Angel. But it wasn’t her fault. It wasn’t Michael Jackson’s fault either. That’s just the way things some times happen. Unfortunately, Farrah Fawcett got eclipsed by the news of the king of Pop! Yet she will always live in our hearts. Farrah Fawcett will always be America’s Angel.
